Global and Indian Opportunities: Fellowships, Research, and Development Roles Open for Applications

A wave of opportunities has opened up for individuals seeking to advance their careers in research, development, and public service. Various Indian organizations and international bodies have announced calls for applications for fellowships, research grants, and development roles, spanning diverse fields from public health to advanced technology and heritage preservation.

Global Opportunities for Aspiring Professionals

  • WHO Internship Programme: The World Health Organization (WHO) is offering internships for students and recent graduates in public health, medical, social, management, administrative, communications, or external relations fields. Applicants must be at least 20 years old, enrolled in or recently completed a relevant course of study, and fluent in at least one working language of the office of assignment. Financial support may be provided to eligible interns.
  • Google PhD Fellowship Program: Google is accepting nominations from universities for its PhD Fellowship Program, supporting outstanding graduate students in computer science and related fields. Fellowships are available across various regions, including India, with benefits covering stipends, research activities, and travel. Research areas include computer architecture, algorithms and optimization, health, human-computer interaction, machine learning, machine perception, natural language processing, privacy, safety, security, quantum AI, software engineering, and systems, networking, and cloud computing.
  • Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters: The Erasmus+ program offers opportunities for individuals, including students, to participate in Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters programs.
  • Study in Japan (MEXT Scholarship): The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) is offering scholarships for research students arriving in Japan in April or September/October 2026. Applications are processed through Japanese Embassies or Consulates General.
  • International Cooperation and Mobility Programs (INCP2 & UTFØRSK): HK-dir (Norwegian Agency for International Cooperation and Quality Enhancement in Higher Education) has calls for applications for international cooperation and mobility programs, including INCP2 and UTFØRSK.

Indian Initiatives for Research and Development

  • Science and Heritage Research Initiative (SHRI), India: The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, invites proposals for its Science and Heritage Research Initiative. This initiative aims to utilize modern S&T tools to preserve and present India’s ancient scientific and technological heritage. Thematic areas include ancient astronomy and mathematics, ancient materials and metallurgy, traditional practices for preventive health and well-being, ancient building architecture and water management systems, and Indian heritage for digital space.
  • ASEAN-India Research Training Fellowship: The ASEAN-India Science and Technology Development Fund (AISTDF) is inviting applications for the ASEAN-India Research Training Fellowship.
  • NLSIU Opportunities: The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) has announced several openings:
  • IC&ASMP Call for Applications 2026-27: The India Science and Technology portal has announced a call for applications for the IC&ASMP program for 2026-27.

Youth Engagement in Global Governance

  • Canada‘s First-Ever Youth Advisory Board at the United Nations: Applications are open for young individuals to join Canada’s inaugural Youth Advisory Board at the United Nations for the 2025-2026 term, offering a unique opportunity for youth to contribute to international policy and advocacy.
