EU-Kenya Business Forum 2025 Advances Green and Inclusive Growth Agenda

Dated: May 15, 2025

Advancing EU-Kenya Cooperation: Highlights from the Business Forum

At the recent EU-Kenya Business Forum 2025, led by Vice President Ostros Thomas, significant strides were made towards enhancing cooperation between the European Union and Kenya, with a clear focus on fostering green and inclusive growth. The forum brought together key stakeholders to discuss and implement strategies that aim to empower local communities, particularly women and youth.

Funding for Small and Medium Enterprises

One of the most impactful announcements from the forum was the allocation of €100 million specifically aimed at supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This funding is designed to boost local economies and create job opportunities, with particular emphasis placed on initiatives that benefit women and youth. By investing in these groups, the goal is to promote entrepreneurship and sustainable business practices across Kenya.

Improving Access to Clean Water

Access to clean water is a fundamental necessity for healthy living, and the forum prioritized this issue by pledging resources to enhance water accessibility for 1.5 million people in Kenya. This commitment is part of a broader strategy to ensure that essential resources are available to all citizens, thereby improving health outcomes and supporting community development.

Sustainable Energy and Transportation Initiatives

The forum also underscored support for renewable energy initiatives, specifically geothermal energy, which holds great promise for Kenya's sustainability goals. Additionally, investment in public transportation systems, such as bus rapid transit (BRT), was discussed as a means to foster urban mobility and reduce environmental impact. These projects are vital in driving Kenya's green transition and ensuring that economic growth does not come at the expense of environmental sustainability.

Driving Kenya’s Digital Economy

Lastly, the discussions at the forum ventured into the digital economy, highlighting the importance of technological advancements in driving economic growth. By leveraging digital platforms, Kenya can enhance service delivery, improve infrastructure, and connect local businesses to global markets. This emphasis on technology not only fosters innovation but also positions Kenya as a leader in the digital transformation within the region.

In summary, the EU-Kenya Business Forum 2025 marked a significant step towards a more collaborative and sustainable future, building on shared interests in economic growth, social inclusiveness, and environmental protection.
