The Japan Foundation is currently accepting grant applications for projects that aim to deepen the understanding of Japan through academic exploration. These projects can include conferences, symposia, presentations, and lectures held in the United States or virtually. Priority will be given to projects that have secured additional funding from sources other than the Japan Foundation.
Successful projects can receive funding of up to $5,000, which can cover expenses such as honoraria for speakers, travel costs, accommodation, research materials, printing, online-related expenses, and venue rental fees. Eligible applicants must be U.S. institutions or organizations with 501(c)(3) status, and the projects must focus on promoting Japanese Studies.
However, certain types of projects are ineligible for consideration, including those from individuals or for-profit entities, projects that have already received funding from other Japan Foundation grants in the current fiscal year, and Japanese-language education programs. Additionally, projects involving political, religious, social welfare, or commercial activities are not eligible.
Applications will be reviewed based on the quality of the proposal and its potential contribution to enhancing the knowledge of Japanese Studies in the United States and beyond. Applicants must submit required materials such as a completed application form, budget sheet, proof of 501(c)(3) status, CVs of project organizers, and a list of grants received as an organization.
