The Cultural Survival organization has announced a call for proposals for Indigenous Youth Fellowships to empower young Indigenous individuals in various fields such as communication, activism, art, and leadership. The program aims to enhance their skills and abilities in order to strengthen their cultural identity and leadership qualities. Youth leadership development plays a crucial role in the well-being of communities, with Indigenous youth being essential for the future of community wellness.
The fellowship program focuses on 13 key themes, including climate crisis response, environmental protection, Indigenous rights, land defense, language preservation, ancestral heritage recovery, gender diversity, community media, traditional practices preservation, ecosystem services maintenance, food sovereignty, and cultural artistic expression.
Selected fellows may receive up to $6,000 over a 10-month period to execute their projects. Eligible applicants must be Indigenous youth between 17 to 28 years old and should demonstrate independence, responsibility, and a commitment to working with Cultural Survival. Proficiency in an Indigenous language is preferred but not required. Applicants must not have been previous Cultural Survival Youth Fellows and should reside in eligible countries across North America, South America, Asia, and Africa.
