Applications are currently being accepted for the Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellowship, a program designed to educate participants on effective strategies to combat hunger and poverty in the United States. The 11-month fellowship aims to cultivate future leaders in the fight against hunger and poverty by providing hands-on experience at various organizational levels.
Participants in the fellowship undergo field placements with local and regional organizations focused on hunger and poverty during the first half of the program. In the second half, fellows shift their focus to national policy through placements with advocacy groups, think tanks, and federal agencies.
Throughout the fellowship, participants receive extensive professional development training, including an orientation on the root causes of hunger and poverty, a midpoint reflection retreat, and policy training sessions. Benefits of the fellowship include membership in a supportive community, networking opportunities, and project management experience.
Fellows typically receive financial support of at least $48,000 during the fellowship. Eligibility criteria include a commitment to addressing root causes of hunger and poverty, leadership qualities, problem-solving skills, and a willingness to learn and collaborate with others in the field. U.S. citizenship or permanent legal residency is required.
