Administrator Samantha Power Speaks with UN Assistant Secretary-General for Development Coordination Oscar Fernandez-Taranco

The following statement was provided by spokesperson Benjamin Suarato: On November 6, Administrator Samantha Power held a meeting with UN Assistant Secretary-General for Development Coordination Oscar Fernandez-Taranco to address the unjust and illegal detention of UN, diplomatic, and NGO personnel by the Houthis. Administrator Power expressed serious worry regarding the recent decision to prosecute multiple detainees on unfounded charges of espionage and urged the UN to persist in seeking diplomatic solutions for their prompt release. Administrator Power emphasized the urgency of taking immediate steps and reiterated the United States’ dedication to assisting the Yemeni people.
