The London Cancer Hub Fund has officially launched, offering support to local charities, Community Interest Companies (CICs), and grassroots organisations across Sutton. Applications are open until 8 April, with the fund aiming to provide match funding of up to £5,000 per project through Crowdfunder. This initiative is part of Aviva’s commitment to the expansion of the London Cancer Hub, a globally recognised centre for cancer research, ensuring that the growth of the site delivers tangible benefits to local communities alongside world-leading science.
The fund is primarily backed by Aviva, with additional contributions from members of the London Cancer Hub professional team. It will support projects that improve health and wellbeing, strengthen community connections, create opportunities for young people, and inspire interest in science, discovery, and innovation. The first funding round specifically targets not-for-profit organisations based in, or supporting people in, the London Borough of Sutton.
Sophie White, Sector Head of Regeneration at Aviva Capital Partners, emphasised that the fund is designed to help Sutton thrive by supporting local organisations and enhancing wellbeing, opportunity, and connection while complementing long-term investment in science and health. Daniel May, Director of Socius, highlighted that the fund responds directly to local priorities, ensuring communities benefit from the Hub’s expansion. Graeme Roy, Head of Partnerships at Crowdfunder, noted that major investments should deliver tangible advantages for grassroots organisations that impact daily life in the community.
Funding decisions will follow an application and assessment process via Crowdfunder, with awards announced in the coming months. In addition, Community Action Sutton plans to launch a separate Healthy Lifestyle Fund in early March, providing further opportunities for local organisations.
The London Cancer Hub expansion is being delivered by Aviva Capital Partners and Socius, in partnership with The Institute of Cancer Research, The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, and the London Borough of Sutton. This development represents the next phase of a globally significant cancer research district, with a focus on integrating community benefits alongside scientific progress.
Aviva Capital Partners, Aviva’s in-house investment unit, focuses on urban regeneration, housing, and sustainable infrastructure projects to foster thriving communities while generating long-term returns. Socius, a certified B Corporation with a £2.5bn development pipeline, collaborates with investors, architects, and local communities to create sustainable and impactful developments across the UK.
