Miracle Theatre has raised more than C$187,000 to establish a permanent support fund for people living with mobility-related neurological disorders in Prince George.
The Prince George Mobility Disorder Support Fund was created using proceeds from the theatre company’s recent production of The Garage Sale, a comedy written by David King. Organizers announced that ticket sales, sponsorships, donations, and concession revenue helped generate a total of C$187,133.82 for the initiative.
The new endowment fund is designed to support individuals affected by neurological conditions including Parkinson’s disease, Multiple sclerosis, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Huntington’s disease, and Alzheimer’s disease.
According to theatre representatives Ted Price and Anne Laughlin, the idea for the fund emerged after hearing growing concerns within the community about limited support services for people dealing with mobility disorders in northern British Columbia.
The initiative also highlights efforts by local advocates including Selen Alpay and Serena Sanghera, who is campaigning to establish a Movement Disorders Clinic in Prince George by 2030 to improve access to specialized neurological care for residents in northern communities.
Management of the new endowment fund will be handled by the Prince George Community Foundation. The organization said annual investment earnings from the fund will be distributed through grants to charities and local groups providing support services for individuals living with mobility challenges.
Community leaders praised the initiative as an example of how arts and philanthropy can work together to address healthcare and social support gaps. Organizers also credited strong local community support, volunteers, donors, and theatre audiences for making the fundraising campaign successful.
The project follows previous charitable fundraising efforts by Miracle Theatre, including support for emergency assistance programmes aimed at helping seniors in the community.
