On Thursday in Jenin, two Palestinian men were reportedly shot, with the incident apparently captured on film by a TV channel, according to OHCHR Spokesperson Jeremy Laurence. An internal review was announced, but statements from a senior Israeli official attempting to absolve security forces raised serious concerns about the credibility of any investigation not fully independent from the government.
The killings of Palestinians by Israeli security forces and settlers in the occupied West Bank have surged, with OHCHR verifying that 1,030 Palestinians, including 233 children, have been killed since 7 October 2023. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk called for independent, prompt, and effective investigations to hold those responsible accountable, emphasizing the need to end impunity for unlawful use of force and growing settler violence.
Violence continues daily across the West Bank, with over 1,600 attacks by Israeli settlers this year affecting more than 270 Palestinian communities. More than 1,000 Palestinians have been injured, with approximately 700 injured directly by settlers, roughly double the number reported in 2024. Injuries include physical assault, stone-throwing, and teargas inhalation, with others caused by Israeli forces or unidentified actors.
In Gaza, UN staff and facilities have also come under fire despite the ceasefire. UNRWA’s school yard in Jabalya was bombed by an Israeli quadcopter, and UNOPS vehicles in Deir Al-Balah were targeted by armed Palestinians, though no injuries were reported. Despite these risks, the UN continues delivering humanitarian aid across Gaza.
Between Sunday and Tuesday, around 18,000 families received monthly food parcels, and since the start of November, over 204,000 families—nearly half of Gaza’s population—have been assisted. Nutrition services have been scaled up, with 40 malnutrition treatment sites operating, including eight new locations in northern Gaza. Efforts are also underway to restore wells, extend pipelines, and rebuild parts of the sewage system to reduce dependence on water trucking.
The UN sexual and reproductive health agency, UNFPA, distributed 16 reproductive health kits and 400,000 units of essential maternal health medicines to support safe deliveries and maternal care across Gaza. Many of these humanitarian efforts rely on UN partners in mine action, who assess sites for explosive hazards, with five assessments carried out on a single day, ensuring aid can be delivered safely.
