The United Nations Industrial Development Organization has convened the first Asia Food Safety Forum in Bangkok, marking a major step toward modernizing food safety systems across the Asia-Pacific region through digital innovation and regional cooperation.
Held on 11–12 June 2026 at the IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, the forum brings together policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, and technology providers to address emerging challenges in food safety and strengthen safe trade across one of the world’s fastest-growing food markets.
The event focuses on how digitalization, innovation, and circular economy approaches can improve food safety governance and regulatory systems. It builds on previous global discussions hosted in Vienna and expands the dialogue to meet the specific needs of Asia’s rapidly evolving food supply chains.
Running alongside ProPak Asia 2026, which attracts tens of thousands of participants, the forum connects policy discussions with industry innovation. This format is designed to encourage collaboration between governments and the private sector to accelerate practical solutions.
Opening remarks from UNIDO emphasized that ensuring safe, high-quality, and accessible food remains a shared global responsibility, particularly as food systems become more complex and interconnected. Regional officials also highlighted the importance of cooperation in developing science-based regulations and adopting new technologies.
A key theme throughout the discussions is the growing role of digital tools in strengthening food safety monitoring, improving regulatory efficiency, and supporting transparent trade systems. Participants are also exploring how harmonized standards across countries can reduce risks and improve consumer protection.
