The Foundation for Springfield Public Schools (FSPS) announced the launch of its “Grant SPS” campaign, aiming to raise $300,000 by August 31.
These funds will directly support educators through fall grants distributed this September, equipping classrooms to advance academic excellence across the district.
Each fall, FSPS funds vital classroom enhancements that exceed standard budgets through three grant categories:
Back-to-School Grants: Funding for creative projects led by teachers in their own classrooms.
Impact Grants: Funding for principal-led programs that improve an entire school.
District Grants: Funding for large-scale projects benefiting students across the whole district.
Last year, generous partners helped FSPS award $300,000 in grants. However, educators requested over $650,000, leaving more than half of their innovative ideas unfunded. The Grant SPS campaign seeks to bridge this gap.
“Springfield Public Schools dedicated teachers champion our students every single day,” said Natalie Murdock, FSPS Executive Director. “By investing in our schools and providing timely resources, we empower our teachers to continue their innovative work… If a teacher can dream it, we can fund it – with your help.”
The impact of these grants is immediate and transformative. At Wanda Gray Elementary, a recent Back-to-School Grant funded the “Make Each Day Count” attendance incentive, which drove record-breaking engagement. This initiative helped the school achieve a 95.01% overall attendance rate—the highest in school history. By ensuring students were present and ready to learn, the positive culture created by the grant directly supported academic performance.

With over 53% of SPS students qualifying for free or reduced-price meals, economic hardship remains a barrier to learning. The Grant SPS campaign ensures that, whether for literacy, STEM, or agriculture education, every student has the tools they need to succeed.
