Union County, June 2026 – The Union County Board of County Commissioners has announced the launch of the 2026 Open Space Grant programs, offering municipalities new opportunities to strengthen outdoor recreation, environmental sustainability, and community enhancement.
The two grant programs – the Kids Recreation Grant and the Greening Grant – are available to all 21 municipalities across Union County. The Kids Recreation Grant supports the development and improvement of recreational facilities and programs for children, while the Greening Grant provides funding to plant trees and enhance green spaces, contributing to cleaner air and healthier communities.
Commissioner Chair Joseph C. Bodek emphasized the importance of these initiatives: “Programs like these help create the kinds of spaces that bring people together and improve everyday life for our residents.” Commissioner Alexander Mirabella, liaison to the Open Space, Recreation and Historic Preservation Trust Fund, added that the grants empower local officials to turn community ideas into real projects that residents can immediately enjoy.
Applications are now open and must be submitted by August 3, 2026 through the Union County Trust Fund Grants portal. Funding is provided by the Union County Open Space, Recreation and Historic Preservation Trust Fund, which continues to play a vital role in building stronger, healthier communities.
