Rome — June 5, 2026 — The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has appointed Italian long-distance runner Nadia Battocletti as its newest Goodwill Ambassador, recognizing her commitment to raising awareness about hunger and humanitarian crises worldwide.
Battocletti, an Olympic and World silver medalist, reigning 3,000m world indoor champion, and multiple European champion, has already supported WFP for over a year. She has championed fundraising and advocacy campaigns, including during Ramadan, when she observed the fast while training for her gold medal at the World Indoor Championships. She has also promoted WFP’s award-winning ShareTheMeal app, mobilizing young audiences and sports fans to provide life-saving meals.
“I am honoured to be appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador for the World Food Programme,” Battocletti said. “As an athlete, I know how essential proper nutrition is to reach your potential. It breaks my heart to see millions of people, especially children, struggling with hunger through no fault of their own. I want to use my voice to stand with WFP and communities facing dramatic hunger worldwide, and to show that even small actions — like sharing a meal — can make a real difference.”
As a WFP Goodwill Ambassador, Battocletti will use her global platform at international sporting events, media engagements, and digital channels to inspire support for WFP’s mission. She will continue promoting innovative ways for individuals — especially young people — to contribute to ending hunger.
WFP Director of Private Partnerships Richard Wilcox welcomed her appointment: “Nadia represents a new generation of athletes who want to give back and use their success to drive positive change. Her commitment, energy and authenticity will help us reach new audiences and shine a light on crises like Sudan, where the needs are immense, but the world’s attention and resources are not enough.”
