Warwickshire County Council has awarded more than £25,000 in funding to 27 community organisations to support local initiatives aimed at improving access to healthy and affordable food across the county. The funding was distributed in April 2026 through the Kind Communities – Kind Food programme, which supports grassroots projects that strengthen community wellbeing.
Each participating organisation received up to £1,000 to deliver local food-related initiatives focused on improving affordability, nutrition awareness, and sustainable food practices. The programme was delivered in partnership with Warwickshire Community and Voluntary Action (WCAVA), which helped administer and promote the application process.
The funded projects target several key priorities, including improving access to affordable and locally sourced food, supporting nutrition education and cooking skills, and encouraging sustainable practices such as reducing food waste and promoting recycling. These efforts are aligned with wider goals to address food insecurity and promote healthier lifestyles across the region.
The initiative forms part of Warwickshire’s broader Food Strategy 2023–2026, which aims to improve food systems across the county through coordinated local action. Over the past three years, the council has invested £70,000 into nearly 70 community-led food projects, with plans underway for a new Food Plan extending to 2028.
Council representatives highlighted the importance of supporting community organisations in delivering practical solutions to food insecurity and promoting resilience at the local level. Partners involved in the programme also emphasized the value of grassroots initiatives in strengthening volunteering, community capacity, and wellbeing.
The continued investment reflects Warwickshire County Council’s ongoing commitment to supporting sustainable food systems and ensuring vulnerable residents have access to healthy and affordable food options.
