Togo and Poland have signed a financing agreement worth €24 million ($27.8 million) to establish Africa Drone Company, a landmark initiative aimed at developing local drone design, assembly, and deployment capabilities.
The agreement was finalized during the official visit of Krzysztof Gawkowski, Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs, to Lomé. The project will be overseen by Cyber Defense Africa, a public‑private partnership between the Togolese government and European group Asseco Data Systems, originally founded in 2019 to strengthen cybersecurity.
The new drone industry initiative will target applications across security, agriculture, logistics, industry, and critical infrastructure monitoring, positioning Togo as a regional hub for advanced technology.
Poland’s state development bank BGK mobilized the financing under the European Union’s Global Gateway initiative, with guarantees provided by the EFSD+ fund. Authorities emphasize that the project moves beyond importing foreign technologies, instead focusing on skills transfer, technical training, and local industrial expertise.
Togo’s Ministry of Public Service Efficiency and Digital Transformation highlighted that the cooperation aligns with the country’s broader ambition to strengthen technological sovereignty and build infrastructure supporting long‑term priorities.
The initiative builds on Togo’s recent investments in digital modernization and cybersecurity, extending its economic transformation strategy into high‑value industrial technologies. By launching Africa Drone Company, Togo aims to reinforce its role as a regional digital and technological hub.
