The African Development Bank, the Government of Nigeria, and UN Women Nigeria have launched the Nigeria Gender Profile and Roadmap to Equality 2030, a new framework designed to accelerate gender equality and support inclusive economic growth across the country.
The initiative provides a comprehensive assessment of gender disparities in key sectors, including education, healthcare, the economy, leadership, governance, and protection from gender-based violence. More importantly, it outlines a practical roadmap with clear priorities and institutional actions aimed at achieving measurable progress by 2030.
Aligned with Nigeria’s National Development Plan 2026–2030, the framework positions gender equality as a key driver of economic development rather than a standalone social objective. It promotes coordinated action across government, the private sector, development partners, and civil society to expand opportunities for women and girls.
The roadmap also supports the African Development Bank’s broader commitment to gender-inclusive development and aligns with the Bank’s Country Strategy for Nigeria, its Gender Strategy, and Nigeria’s international commitments under the Beijing Platform for Action.
Developed through nationwide consultations and contributions from national experts, the Gender Profile and Roadmap is expected to guide evidence-based policymaking, strengthen accountability, and increase investment in gender-responsive initiatives. The partners believe the framework will play a vital role in advancing women’s empowerment, reducing inequality, and fostering sustainable and inclusive economic growth in Nigeria by 2030.
