The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed its strategic partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) by providing a $2 million contribution in core resources for 2026 to support sustainable development efforts worldwide.
The renewed partnership comes as flexible development funding becomes increasingly important for responding to complex global challenges, including climate change, humanitarian crises, and economic instability. The contribution will help UNDP deliver development solutions in countries and communities facing urgent needs.
Saudi Arabia and UNDP have maintained a long-standing partnership focused on advancing sustainable development through country-level programmes, regional cooperation, and global initiatives. Their collaboration has increasingly focused on areas such as water resource management, climate resilience, and environmental sustainability.
The partnership also supports efforts in crisis-affected regions by connecting humanitarian assistance with early recovery and long-term development. Through integrated approaches, UNDP and Saudi Arabia aim to strengthen communities’ ability to recover from crises and build more resilient futures.
Another key area of cooperation is innovative financing and development investment. The partnership supports efforts to expand access to development finance and encourage collaboration between countries through South-South and Triangular Cooperation.
UNDP highlighted that core contributions from partners such as Saudi Arabia provide essential flexibility, allowing the organisation to respond quickly to emerging challenges, strengthen national institutions, and invest in innovative solutions that support long-term development goals.
Flexible funding also helps strengthen transparency, accountability, and operational effectiveness by supporting UNDP’s ability to manage programmes efficiently and deliver results across diverse regions.
Saudi Arabia’s growing role in international development cooperation continues to support global efforts to achieve sustainable development objectives. UNDP said it looks forward to further strengthening collaboration with the Kingdom to advance shared priorities and promote inclusive, sustainable growth worldwide.
