Cheshire FA is promoting the latest phase of the Lionesses HERe to Play Fund, a national funding initiative aimed at increasing participation opportunities for women and girls in grassroots football across England. The programme is delivered by the Football Foundation with support from the Premier League, The FA, the UK Government, and National Lottery funding through Sport England.
The funding programme has been introduced in response to growing demand for women’s and girls’ football following the success of the England Lionesses. Organisers aim to create more inclusive, accessible, and welcoming football environments while supporting the long-term development of the female grassroots game.
Under the latest funding round running between May and September 2026, eligible clubs and organisations can apply for financial support to help establish or expand football opportunities for women and girls. The grants are intended to cover key operational costs such as facility hire, equipment, coaching, referee expenses, volunteer training, affiliation fees, and promotional activities.
The programme is open to a wide range of not-for-profit organisations including grassroots football clubs, charities, local authorities, schools providing community access, County FAs, community interest companies, and other social enterprises. Applicants are also expected to demonstrate a commitment to equality and inclusion within football development.
The Football Foundation says the initiative is part of a broader strategy to expand participation and improve access to quality football facilities for women and girls nationwide. The programme aims to help create thousands of new playing opportunities while strengthening community football infrastructure and encouraging long-term engagement in the sport.
