Women and girls in Gaza continue to endure devastating consequences from the ongoing conflict, facing widespread death, displacement, deprivation, and catastrophic hunger. UN Women remains on the ground, working with women-led organizations to provide lifesaving services and to place women’s leadership at the center of response and recovery efforts.
Since October 2023, Israeli airstrikes and military operations have killed more than 38,000 women and girls, while nearly 11,000 have sustained life-altering injuries. Almost one million have been displaced, and around 790,000 are experiencing crisis-level or catastrophic food insecurity. The destruction of infrastructure has made access to essential services such as healthcare nearly impossible, compounding the humanitarian emergency.
Tens of thousands of households are now headed by women who have lost their husbands, leaving them to sustain families without income, support, or access to basic services. This has deepened the vulnerability of women and girls, who are disproportionately affected by the lack of resources and protection.
UN Women has called for the full implementation of the ceasefire, accountability for violations, unobstructed humanitarian assistance, and the meaningful inclusion of women and girls in all response and recovery efforts. The organization has been present in Palestine since 1997, consistently supporting the rights of women and girls and partnering with women-led organizations to deliver aid and strengthen resilience.
