Minister Patrick O’Donovan officially launched Cruinniú na nÓg 2026 at TU Dublin Grange Gorman, marking the beginning of Ireland’s annual national celebration dedicated to creativity among children and young people. The initiative continues to highlight the importance of artistic expression, imagination, and cultural participation by offering free creative experiences across the country.
Cruinniú na nÓg has become a major cultural event in Ireland, encouraging young people to explore creative activities ranging from music and theatre to visual arts, storytelling, film, dance, coding, and circus performances. Ireland remains the only country in the world to host a dedicated national day celebrating the creativity of children and teenagers through free public events and workshops.
The 2026 programme is expected to continue the tradition of hosting hundreds of community-led events nationwide in collaboration with local authorities, artists, youth organisations, and cultural institutions. The initiative aims to provide young participants with opportunities to discover new skills, build confidence, and engage with creative communities in an inclusive environment.
During the launch event, Minister O’Donovan emphasized the importance of creativity in supporting young people’s wellbeing, personal development, and community connections. The programme also reflects Ireland’s wider commitment to supporting cultural engagement and youth participation through the Creative Ireland Programme.
Cruinniú na nÓg has grown significantly since its introduction in 2018, attracting increasing participation from families, schools, artists, and community groups across Ireland. The event has evolved into a nationwide platform where young people can experiment with artistic ideas, collaborate with others, and showcase their talents in safe and welcoming spaces.
The programme also promotes cross-community collaboration and encourages participation from young people of diverse backgrounds. Many of the projects featured in recent editions have focused on themes such as mental health, sustainability, digital creativity, inclusion, and social connection, helping participants engage with important contemporary issues through art and innovation.
