Dublin — June 1, 2026 — The Department of Social Protection has confirmed that more than 147,000 carers across Ireland will receive the annual Carer’s Support Grant of €2,000 per care recipient this week. The payments, valued at approximately €336 million, will be issued on Thursday, June 4, directly to carers’ nominated post offices or bank accounts.
The grant is available to all full‑time carers of older people or individuals with disabilities, regardless of income or social insurance contributions. Over 18,000 carers who provide care for two or more people will receive multiple payments, reflecting the number of individuals they support.
Minister for Social Protection Dara Calleary TD emphasized the importance of the grant, noting that it was increased to €2,000 as part of broader improvements recognizing the vital role carers play in society. He also highlighted additional measures introduced in Budget 2026, including changes to the weekly income disregard for Carer’s Allowance, which will take effect in July.
“The Carer’s Support Grant is a recognition of the invaluable contribution carers make to families, communities, and society as a whole,” Minister Calleary said. “Your commitment and work in supporting those who need help is hugely important and greatly appreciated.”
The grant is paid automatically to those receiving Carer’s Allowance, Carer’s Benefit, or Domiciliary Care Allowance, but is also available to other full‑time carers who meet eligibility criteria. Importantly, the payment is exempt from income tax, PRSI, and USC, ensuring carers receive the full benefit.
This initiative underscores Ireland’s commitment to supporting carers, providing financial relief while acknowledging their essential role in sustaining health and social care systems nationwide.
