Bangladesh has launched the NGO-Microfinance Institution (MFI) Resourced Pooled Fund to strengthen locally led humanitarian financing and improve disaster response. The initiative was formally introduced in Dhaka, with Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir attending as chief guest.
At the launch, the minister emphasized that public-private partnerships are essential for ensuring rapid and effective humanitarian assistance in disaster-prone Bangladesh. He expressed confidence that the pooled fund would enhance the disaster response capacity of marginalized communities and accelerate emergency aid activities nationwide.
The fund is designed to leverage the experience, institutional capacity, and grassroots engagement of local NGOs and microfinance institutions. By combining these strengths, the initiative aims to create a more integrated and sustainable approach to humanitarian aid management.
The minister urged all organizations and institutions involved to work in a coordinated manner to ensure the successful implementation of the fund. Representatives from international organizations, development partners, NGOs, and microfinance institutions attended the launch, signaling broad support for this new collaborative model.
