In the village of Coșnița, Dubăsari district, two streets have been modernized with new sidewalks covering over 2,160 m², thanks to support from the EU Confidence Building Measures Programme implemented by UNDP. The European Union contributed more than US$108,000, while the local community co‑financed with $17,500. The project has improved both comfort and safety for the approximately 6,000 residents and visitors of the village.
Residents expressed relief at the changes, noting that children previously had to walk on the road due to the lack of sidewalks, creating safety risks. Now, with upgraded infrastructure, the community enjoys safer and more accessible streets.
Since spring 2024, Coșnița and 11 other communities on both banks of the Nistru River have engaged in participatory processes to define development priorities. For Coșnița, the modernization of two streets was chosen, alongside fundraising efforts—including diaspora contributions—to develop green spaces. With these funds, 126 trees of three varieties were planted, adding environmental and aesthetic value to the area.
Community members highlighted their pride in contributing to the initiative, emphasizing the importance of leaving something valuable for future generations. The project is one of six infrastructure initiatives supported by the EU and UNDP across both banks of the Nistru River, aimed at strengthening cooperation between communities through joint projects involving local partners, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders.
