UNDP and Dhaka University Partner to Build Skilled Inclusive Insurance Professionals

Dated: May 7, 2026

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Bangladesh, in partnership with the Center for Policy Research on Business and Development (CPRBD) at the University of Dhaka, has launched an International Certification in Inclusive Insurance to strengthen Bangladesh’s insurance sector and improve financial protection for underserved communities. The programme was officially introduced on 5 May 2026 at the University of Dhaka.

The initiative is being implemented under UNDP’s Insurance and Risk Finance Facility (IRFF) and aims to address the shortage of technical expertise that has limited the expansion of inclusive insurance in Bangladesh. The programme seeks to develop professionals capable of designing and delivering insurance solutions for low-income households, micro-entrepreneurs, small and medium enterprises, and climate-vulnerable populations.

Inclusive insurance is increasingly viewed as an important mechanism for improving economic resilience against financial, health, and climate-related shocks. The certification programme will support professionals from insurance companies, financial institutions, NGOs, microfinance institutions, digital platforms, and government organizations to strengthen their capabilities in product development, customer engagement, claims management, and service delivery.

Academic leaders from the University of Dhaka emphasized the importance of inclusive insurance in building a more resilient and equitable economy. They highlighted that the programme combines international standards with a nationally anchored academic framework, helping Bangladesh strengthen customer-focused insurance systems and expand protection for underserved communities.

The programme also aims to create a pool of internationally certified professionals and trainers through a Training of Trainers approach. By improving technical skills and institutional capacity, the initiative is expected to enhance the quality and accessibility of inclusive insurance products across Bangladesh while promoting equitable risk protection and long-term financial resilience.
