The visit of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Regional Director for Africa to Cameroon has reinforced cooperation aimed at expanding decent job opportunities for young people and women, in line with national employment priorities. During high-level discussions with government officials and social partners, both sides agreed to strengthen support for the Presidential Special Programme for Youth and Women’s Employment, with the ILO providing technical assistance for its design, implementation, and evaluation to ensure measurable employment outcomes.
The mission highlighted a strong focus on improving employability through better-aligned vocational training systems, enhanced skills development, and innovative approaches to help young people access the labour market, including those without formal education. It also emphasized the importance of social dialogue between government, employers, and workers as a foundation for effective labour policies, improved working conditions, and higher enterprise productivity.
Additional discussions addressed labour standards, worker protection, and inclusive employment strategies, including support for migrants, internally displaced persons, and other vulnerable groups. The ILO reaffirmed its commitment to working with Cameroon to promote inclusive, sustainable employment policies that strengthen social justice and expand access to decent work opportunities.
