The Kansas legislature, along with Governor Laura Kelly, has enacted a new incentive aimed at encouraging fuel retailers to sell E15, a fuel blend containing 15% American-made ethanol. The move has been welcomed by the biofuels industry, as it is expected to expand access to lower-cost fuel that is compatible with about 96% of vehicles currently on U.S. roads.
The initiative was praised by Growth Energy, which highlighted that the policy will benefit drivers, farmers, and fuel retailers by increasing E15 availability and helping reduce fuel costs. The organization also urged federal lawmakers to adopt a nationwide, year-round E15 policy to extend similar savings and energy benefits to consumers across the United States.
