The 2026–27 human rights and equality grants scheme has opened, offering a total of €350,000 to support projects that advance human rights and equality across three key areas: disability rights under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, efforts to tackle racism and racial discrimination under the UN Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, and initiatives addressing human rights challenges in the digital space, including the impact of artificial intelligence.
The scheme is designed to empower civil society organisations, community and rights-holder groups, and trade unions working to reduce inequality and strengthen participation among marginalised communities. Grants of up to €7,000 for small projects and up to €22,000 for general projects are available, with a focus on lived experience, capacity building, research, advocacy, and community-led action. Now in its 11th year, the programme has already supported hundreds of initiatives across Ireland spanning education, awareness, policy analysis, and community engagement. The application deadline is 3pm on Tuesday 19 May 2026, and applicants are encouraged to take part in upcoming online information sessions hosted by the Commission.
