The African Development Bank (AfDB), in partnership with South Korea’s Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), has concluded a business seminar aimed at expanding Korean participation in infrastructure, energy, and digital development projects across Africa.
The hybrid event brought together more than 100 participants from 70 Korean companies and institutions to explore investment and procurement opportunities within African Development Bank-financed projects. Discussions focused on key sectors including transport, water and sanitation, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, digital solutions, and project consulting services.
The seminar also highlighted opportunities available through the Korea-Africa Economic Cooperation (KOAFEC) Trust Fund, which supports project preparation, technical cooperation, knowledge sharing, and private sector participation in development initiatives across Africa.
Among the projects showcased was a drone-based disaster management initiative in Mozambique that uses drones and artificial intelligence to support emergency response, infrastructure assessments, and disaster monitoring. The project demonstrates the growing role of advanced technology in strengthening resilience across the continent.
The African Development Bank said the partnership aims to connect Korea’s technological expertise and investment capacity with Africa’s growing infrastructure and development needs. The initiative is expected to create new business opportunities while supporting sustainable economic growth, digital transformation, and improved infrastructure across African countries ahead of the KOAFEC Ministerial Conference scheduled for September 2026.
