The Humana Foundation has announced more than $12.2 million in new grants to strengthen emotional health initiatives across the United States. The funding will support nonprofit organizations and university research teams working to address loneliness, depression, and social isolation among seniors and veterans.
The 2026 grant program focuses on expanding community-based solutions that improve mental well-being and strengthen social connections. The foundation aims to support programs that help older adults build meaningful relationships, access behavioral health resources, and improve their overall quality of life.
The grants will support 13 nonprofit organizations and five academic research teams developing innovative approaches to emotional health. Supported initiatives include digital health literacy programs, peer-to-peer mental health support, volunteer-based companionship, and community engagement activities.
A major focus of the investment is reducing loneliness among older adults, which the foundation describes as a growing public health challenge. Programs supported through the grants will help communities create stronger networks of support and provide accessible mental health resources.
The funding will also advance research into new approaches for improving emotional well-being. Universities receiving support will explore areas such as artificial intelligence tools for social connection, culturally tailored health interventions, caregiver support, and the relationship between nutrition and mental health.
The Humana Foundation’s investments include partnerships with organizations working in multiple states, supporting initiatives designed to reach underserved communities, seniors living alone, veterans, and caregivers.
Through these grants, the foundation continues its commitment to health equity by investing in programs that remove barriers to care and promote healthier, more connected communities. A second round of grants focused on advancing health equity is expected to be announced later in 2026.
