Four Masters GAA Club and the Bluestack Special Needs Foundation in Donegal Town have been awarded €2 million in funding to develop a new shared community facility at Tir Chonaill Park, described as a major investment in inclusion, accessibility, and wellbeing.
The funding comes through the Immigrant Investor Programme (IIP) Fund and will support the construction of a modern clubhouse and community hub designed for people of all ages and abilities.
The planned development will include an accessible gym, a Changing Places facility, community meeting rooms, an accessible kitchen, a large event space, and full lift access throughout the building. It is also being designed to achieve an A1 energy rating, with sustainability features such as low-carbon construction, rainwater harvesting, and biodiversity enhancements.
Project supporters say the facility will serve as a long-term community asset, supporting participation in sport, education, and social activities across the region. It will also be shared with several local schools, including Abbey Vocational School, The Glebe National School, Scoil Aodh Rua agus Nuala, Killymard National School, Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí, and St Francis’s National School.
Local political representatives welcomed the announcement, calling it a transformative investment for Donegal Town and surrounding areas. Fianna Fáil TD Pat the Cope Gallagher praised the project committee for their work in advancing the proposal and said it would leave a lasting legacy for the community.
The Bluestack Foundation, which supports people with special needs, is a key partner in the project, ensuring the facility is designed with accessibility and inclusion at its core. The development is expected to become a major community hub promoting health, participation, and social engagement for future generations.
