The ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) has signed a financing agreement worth USD 10.04 million with G Farms Ltd to support the expansion of its poultry and dairy operations in The Gambia. The agreement, signed on 28 July 2026, will fund the acquisition of modern equipment and help scale the company’s production capacity, strengthening the country’s agricultural sector.
The investment will enable G Farms Ltd to significantly expand its poultry and dairy operations by 2035. The company plans to increase its laying hen population from 120,000 to 500,000, raise annual broiler production from 651,146 to more than 3.2 million birds, and grow day-old chick production from 3.3 million to 5.5 million units.
The project also includes a major expansion of dairy farming, with the cattle herd expected to grow from 110 to 2,500 animals. Feed production capacity will also increase to 10 tonnes per hour, supporting the larger livestock operation.
According to EBID President Dr. George Agyekum Donkor, the financing reflects the bank’s commitment to improving food security, supporting private sector development, and creating sustainable economic opportunities across West Africa. He expressed confidence that the project would deliver long-term benefits for The Gambia’s economy and agricultural industry.
Representatives from the European Investment Bank (EIB) also highlighted that the partnership with EBID supports investments that promote food security, employment, and sustainable agricultural development throughout the region.
G Farms Ltd Managing Director Muhammad Sanyang described the financing as a major milestone for the company. He said the investment will help expand production, improve operational efficiency, and meet growing demand for high-quality poultry and dairy products while supporting national food security and rural development.
Beyond increasing domestic food production, the project is expected to generate new employment opportunities, improve incomes across agricultural value chains, reduce reliance on imported food products, and strengthen the resilience of The Gambia’s agricultural sector. The investment also aligns with EBID’s Growth, Resilience and Optimisation (GRO) Strategy, which focuses on financing transformative agribusiness projects across West Africa.
