New Zealand is strengthening its position as a premier destination for international sports and entertainment events, with several world-class attractions confirmed through the Government’s Events Attraction Package.
Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston announced that the inaugural Snow League World Challenge will take place at Cardrona in September, bringing some of the world’s top snowboarding and freeskiing athletes to New Zealand. The event will serve as the opening competition of the Snow League season and is expected to attract significant international attention.
The announcement follows a series of major events secured under the government-backed initiative, including international sporting competitions, live music performances, and large-scale exhibitions. Among the highlights is global music star Post Malone’s upcoming concert in Auckland, which is expected to generate substantial economic activity and attract visitors from across the country and abroad.
The government says these events provide direct benefits to local economies by increasing demand for hotels, restaurants, cafes, and other tourism-related businesses. Officials also emphasize the long-term value of hosting major events through community engagement, sports development opportunities, and support for the creative sector.
Supported by a $40 million Events Attraction Package, the initiative forms part of a broader $70 million investment in major events and tourism announced in 2025. With a growing lineup of international sporting fixtures, concerts, and cultural experiences, New Zealand is positioning itself for a standout year in tourism and event-driven economic growth.
Government leaders believe the strategy will continue to enhance New Zealand’s global profile while delivering lasting economic and social benefits to cities and regions nationwide.
