Clinton County, Mich. — June 3, 2026 — Clinton County has received $2.5 million in federal funding to support ongoing repairs along Chandler Road, part of a broader $146 million federal investment in Mid-Michigan infrastructure and public safety projects.
The project covers the stretch of Chandler Road from Coleman Road to Stoll Road, running through Bath and DeWitt townships and bordering the city of East Lansing. According to Doug Steffen, managing director of the Clinton County Road Commission, poor soil conditions and unstable areas identified through geotechnical analysis have complicated the repairs. “We’ve got to get some design done to figure out how to best stabilize those soils and keep it from continuing to do that,” Steffen explained.
The funding will help stabilize the roadway and ensure long-term durability, addressing challenges posed by mucky soil conditions and the freeze-thaw cycles that accelerate deterioration. The investment is expected to improve safety and reliability for commuters and freight traffic in the region.
This allocation is part of a larger federal push to strengthen infrastructure across Mid-Michigan, ensuring counties and townships can maintain critical road networks and support local economic growth.
