Santo Domingo — May 26, 2026 — Across all 31 provinces of the Dominican Republic, thousands of women have united to share their experiences and aspirations for justice, safety, and equality. The nationwide Gran Consulta Nacional, led by the Ministry of Women’s Affairs in partnership with UN agencies and supported by the United Kingdom, gathered insights from more than 4,750 women and girls, shaping the country’s position at the 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) in New York.
Listening to Women’s Voices
From remote mountain villages to urban neighborhoods, participants spoke about economic dependence, caregiving responsibilities, and access to essential services. Their testimonies have been transformed into policy recommendations that will inform national and international gender‑equality strategies.
A New Approach to Policy Development
Minister Gloria Reyes emphasized that the Dominican Republic’s stance at CSW70 should be grounded in lived experiences rather than institutional assumptions. The Ministry collaborated with provincial governors to conduct 31 territorial consultations, a national virtual survey, and an in‑person meeting with over 200 women representing diverse sectors of society.
Advancing Justice and Equality
The consultation aligns with CSW70’s theme of ensuring access to justice for all women and girls. By prioritizing dialogue and inclusion, the Dominican Republic demonstrates how participatory policymaking can strengthen gender equality and amplify women’s voices on the global stage.
