Srinagar — May 25, 2026 — Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, chaired a meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) to review disaster preparedness and approve new technology‑driven mitigation measures. The meeting brought together senior officials from finance, law, revenue, and disaster management departments, alongside representatives of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
The SEC cleared a landmark collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to implement disaster mitigation initiatives across districts. A Project Steering Committee will oversee coordination, led by the Principal Secretary of Disaster Management and co‑chaired by UNDP.
To strengthen technological readiness, the SEC approved procurement of Digital Terrain Models for vulnerable districts, enabling advanced simulation and prediction of natural disasters. Satellite phones will also be deployed in high‑risk subdivisions to ensure uninterrupted communication during emergencies.
Hazard‑specific task forces for earthquakes, floods, Glacial Lake Outburst Floods, and landslides will be constituted, drawing expertise from national institutions such as IITs and universities. These specialized teams will provide critical inputs for disaster risk reduction and preparedness planning.
In another significant decision, the SEC revalidated ₹10.69 crore for procurement of rescue and emergency response equipment to ensure safe conduct of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
Dulloo emphasized the importance of robust preparedness, coordinated response mechanisms, and adoption of modern technology to minimize risks and strengthen resilience across Jammu and Kashmir.
