Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that $15 million in funding is now available to support innovative building solutions across New York State. The initiative is being administered through the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and is part of the state’s broader push to improve energy efficiency, reduce emissions, and modernize existing building infrastructure.
The funding is designed to support the development and demonstration of new or improved technologies that can be deployed in existing residential and commercial buildings. These solutions are expected to help reduce energy consumption, improve building performance, enhance indoor air quality, and lower overall operating costs for building owners and occupants.
Key focus areas under the program include building efficiency upgrades such as improved insulation, ventilation, and air sealing, as well as electrification technologies like advanced heat pump systems for heating, cooling, and hot water. The initiative also encourages innovations that improve load management and reduce strain on the energy grid.
Eligibility for the program is broad, allowing participation from researchers, manufacturers, universities, laboratories, building owners, and industry organizations. Projects that benefit low- and moderate-income communities or disadvantaged areas are expected to receive special consideration, aligning with New York’s climate justice priorities.
According to state officials, the program aims to accelerate the commercialization and scaling of next-generation building technologies. By supporting real-world demonstrations, New York hopes to bring more cost-effective and sustainable solutions to market while advancing its long-term climate and energy goals.
