The City Bridge Foundation, one of London’s largest independent charitable funders, has announced that it has distributed approximately £895 million in grants to more than 9,000 organisations across the capital. This milestone highlights nearly three decades of sustained investment in community development, social justice initiatives, and grassroots support across London.
The foundation, which also serves as the owner and maintainer of five Thames river crossings, has used its charitable funding capacity to support organisations working to address inequality, improve access to services, and strengthen community resilience. Since expanding its charitable role in 1995, it has significantly increased its impact across a wide range of social sectors.
Funding has been directed toward thousands of grassroots charities and community organisations, helping them deliver services in areas such as homelessness support, youth engagement, health and wellbeing, domestic violence prevention, and social inclusion. The foundation’s approach focuses on long-term impact by strengthening organisations that work directly with vulnerable and underserved communities.
City Bridge Foundation has also continued to align its funding strategy with broader social justice priorities, aiming to reduce inequality across London. Its grants are designed not only to provide financial support but also to build capacity within the voluntary sector, enabling organisations to deliver sustainable and lasting change.
The organisation’s milestone reflects its broader mission of reinvesting surplus income from its endowment and assets into charitable causes. As London’s population and social needs continue to grow, the foundation remains a key contributor to the city’s civil society infrastructure and community support ecosystem.
