Queensland’s Stronger Homes Grant program has been expanded to provide more flood‑affected homeowners with resilience funding to protect their properties against future flooding. Grants of up to $10,000 are now available in seven additional disaster‑hit communities, including Barcoo, Bulloo, Bundaberg, Isaac, Rockhampton, Quilpie, and Western Downs.
The expanded program covers disasters such as the 2025 Western Queensland Surface Trough and severe weather events between December 2025 and April 2026. Eligible upgrades include raising electrical switchboards, hot water systems, and air conditioning units above flood levels, as well as installing flood‑resistant wall linings and flooring. These measures are designed to help families return to their homes sooner after floods and reduce recovery costs.
Delivered through the joint Commonwealth‑state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, the program also supports local economies, with 82 percent of resilience work carried out by regional contractors. Initially introduced after the North and Far North Queensland floods of early 2025, the scheme continues to help communities build back stronger and prepare for future weather events.
By addressing long‑term resilience, the program provides families and communities with added protection against repeated flooding. Applications for the grants close on 30 November 2026, with all works required to be completed by 30 June 2027.
