In Belize City, the Ministry of Health and Wellness received ten all‑in‑one desktop computers and a video projector to strengthen maternal and child health services. This support came through the project “Strengthening the EMTCT Strategy with Maternal and Child Health Services,” funded by the India‑UN Development Partnership Fund via the United Nations Office for South‑South Cooperation and implemented by PAHO/WHO.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to eliminate mother‑to‑child transmission of HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B, and Chagas disease across the Caribbean. The donated equipment will enhance frontline health services by improving data management, surveillance, and laboratory coordination, enabling providers to deliver more efficient and integrated care for mothers and children.
By reinforcing these critical areas, Belize can sustain its progress as a country that has already achieved EMTCT validation, while other nations in the region move closer to this milestone. The handover event highlighted the importance of partnership and collective commitment to ending preventable transmission of diseases and ensuring a healthier future for all.
