The Government of Norway and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) held high-level strategic discussions in Geneva to strengthen cooperation in response to rising global displacement and increasingly complex migration flows driven by crises, instability, and economic pressures. The meeting focused on scaling up practical, coordinated responses to protect migrants and displaced people, while supporting states in managing migration challenges more effectively.
Building on their long-standing partnership, both sides reviewed ongoing collaboration and identified priority areas for future action, including humanitarian response, migration governance, organizational reforms, and route-based approaches to safer migration management. The discussions emphasized the need for rights-based, evidence-driven and people-centred solutions that deliver real outcomes on the ground.
Both IOM and Norway reaffirmed their commitment to multilateral cooperation and to ensuring that migration policies uphold human rights, dignity, and protection. The partnership highlighted the importance of translating global commitments into practical action, particularly in fragile and crisis-affected contexts, to improve outcomes for migrants, displaced populations, and host communities worldwide.
