The Small Grants Programme of the Global Environment Facility, implemented by UNDP Moldova, has launched a new call for project proposals aimed at supporting civil society organizations working on environmental and climate challenges. The initiative focuses on delivering practical, community-level impact in areas on both banks of the Nistru River and requires applicants to work in partnership with local stakeholders while contributing at least 50 percent co-financing of total project costs.
The programme supports a wide range of thematic areas including ecosystem conservation, protection of threatened species, sustainable agriculture and food security, low-carbon energy access, waste and chemicals management, sustainable urban development, community-based climate adaptation, and social inclusion. It also encourages projects that strengthen collaboration between civil society, government, and the private sector, along with initiatives focused on knowledge sharing, monitoring, and evaluation.
With a total funding envelope of $900,000, organizations can apply for grants of up to $75,000 under standard funding or up to $150,000 under strategic grants. Each project can run for a maximum duration of 18 months, allowing sufficient time for implementation and measurable results at the community level.
The deadline for submission of proposals is 19 June 2026 at 16:30, and applicants will also have access to online information sessions to better understand the application process and requirements.
Implemented globally by UNDP since 1992, the Small Grants Programme supports grassroots environmental action in areas such as climate change, biodiversity protection, and sustainable resource management. In Moldova, it continues to strengthen local solutions, build partnerships, and promote inclusive, sustainable development by empowering communities to address environmental challenges directly.
