Penzance Council has awarded over £25,000 in grant funding to support a variety of local community organisations, reflecting its commitment to enhancing community life across the area. The funding supports projects ranging from heritage preservation and arts initiatives to food security and maritime activities, benefiting both residents and the local environment.
The increased grant budget for 2025/2026 and the introduction of four funding windows have allowed the council to distribute resources throughout the year. In this final grant round, six organisations received support, including Mounts Bay Lugger Association, Friends of Mousehole Rock Pool, Penzance LitFest, Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange, Growing Links CIC, and Bewnans Kernow.
The Mounts Bay Lugger Association received £4,128.93 to continue essential maintenance on the historic 121-year-old Cornish fishing boat, Happy Return, ensuring it remains accessible for community sailing and youth maritime activities. Friends of Mousehole Rock Pool was awarded £4,887.47 to repair storm damage to the tidal pool, safeguarding a cherished recreational and educational site for local children.
Penzance LitFest received £4,887.47 to attract high-profile authors, support community outreach, and enhance literacy programs for local schools. Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange secured £4,870.85 to launch a long-term social engagement project in partnership with St Petrocs and the National Portrait Gallery, amplifying the voices of people experiencing homelessness.
Growing Links CIC received £4,887.47 to support its Street Food Project, providing healthy meals and a welcoming space for people facing food insecurity and homelessness. Finally, Bewnans Kernow received £1,901.10 to fund exhibitions for the ‘Old Knowledge Penzance’ project, preserving local history and heritage for current and future generations.
Overall, Penzance Council’s grants enable these organisations to continue delivering meaningful social, cultural, and environmental benefits, strengthening community engagement and improving the well-being of local residents.
