Fully Funded Opportunity: Nigerian English Language Assistants to Teach in France

Dated: June 10, 2025

Nigerian students fluent in French have a unique opportunity to become English Language Assistants in France for seven months, fully funded. This program, designed to foster cultural exchange and professional experience, offers around 30 positions annually to Nigerian university students.

Unlock Your Potential: Teach English in France

This program is a remarkable chance for Nigerian students to immerse themselves in French culture while gaining invaluable international professional experience. It is not intended for aspiring language teachers but rather for students across all disciplines who possess a strong command of French and wish to enhance their linguistic and cultural proficiency.

Role of an English Language Assistant

English Language Assistants play a crucial role in enriching the language learning experience for French students. Their responsibilities include:

  • Participating in language training for students, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Leading discussions on Nigerian culture and civilization to engage students and teachers.
  • Providing support in the classroom with oral and written English for small groups.
  • Organizing independent oral expression activities or collaborating with supervising teachers.
  • Offering linguistic and cultural assistance for various school activities, such as visits, exchanges, and creating didactic materials.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for this prestigious program, applicants must meet specific requirements:

  • Citizenship: Must be Nigerian citizens. Permanent residents are not eligible.
  • Age: Between 20 and 35 years old at the time of assuming the position.
  • Education:
    • Completed secondary education in Nigeria.
    • Currently enrolled at a Nigerian university.
    • Completed at least two years of university studies.
  • Language Proficiency: A minimum B1 level in French is required.
  • Native Language: Must be a native English speaker.
  • Marital Status: Preferably single, as the assistant’s salary is not designed to support dependents.

Application Process

Interested candidates must complete the application form, which is available in French, electronically. A tutorial for the application form is provided in English to assist applicants. The completed application should be submitted via email and as a hard copy to the French Embassy.
