India’s Ministry of Jal Shakti is set to host a national workshop in New Delhi on 1 June 2026 to enhance collaboration between government bodies, academic institutions, industry leaders, and research organisations in the water sector. The initiative aims to accelerate innovation, strengthen research capabilities, and promote sustainable water management solutions across the country.
The workshop will bring together senior government officials, scientific experts, universities, start-ups, and private sector stakeholders at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre. The focus will be on aligning research priorities with policy needs while encouraging practical, technology-driven solutions to address challenges related to water security, climate resilience, and resource efficiency.
A key highlight of the event will be the launch of the MAHA on Water initiative, a joint programme between the Ministry of Jal Shakti and the Anusandhan National Research Foundation. The initiative is designed to promote high-impact research in areas such as water resource management, drinking water systems, and improved water-use efficiency. An open call for research proposals will be introduced to encourage participation from academic and scientific communities, alongside a separate call for start-ups and MSMEs through the BHARAT-WIN portal to support innovation in water technologies.
The workshop will also introduce the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari platform under the Catch the Rain programme, aimed at encouraging public participation in water conservation. The digital platform will enable citizens and local institutions to document efforts related to rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, and other conservation activities, strengthening community involvement in long-term water sustainability efforts.
In collaboration with ISRO, the Ministry of Jal Shakti is expected to expand the use of satellite-based technologies for monitoring and managing water resources. The partnership will focus on multiple priority areas, including flood management, groundwater assessment, and river system monitoring, reflecting the growing role of geospatial technology in environmental governance.
The programme will also feature technical sessions covering groundwater management, irrigation systems, floodplain mapping, dam safety, and climate adaptation strategies. Researchers and policymakers will review past research outcomes and discuss future priorities to strengthen India’s water governance framework in the coming years.
An accompanying exhibition will showcase innovations and technological solutions developed by research institutions, start-ups, and industry players, highlighting practical approaches to improving water management systems across the country.
The national workshop marks a significant step toward integrating science, technology, and policy to build a more resilient and sustainable water future for India.
