The Government of Bangladesh has reaffirmed its commitment to multilateral cooperation and sustainable development through a renewed contribution to the core resources of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The contribution reflects Bangladesh’s continued support for global development initiatives and its commitment to addressing complex international challenges through collective action.
UNDP stated that flexible core funding plays a vital role in enabling rapid responses to crises while supporting long-term development priorities across countries and regions. Bangladesh’s development priorities, including inclusive economic growth, climate resilience, and effective governance, closely align with UNDP’s global mission to promote sustainable and equitable development.
Kanni Wignaraja, UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, expressed appreciation for the decades-long partnership between Bangladesh and UNDP. She noted that Bangladesh’s continued support demonstrates its commitment to advancing global sustainable development as the country progresses toward graduating from Least Developed Country status.
Bangladesh Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury emphasized that the country remains committed to strengthening the global development architecture through cooperation with UNDP, which has been a longstanding development partner since Bangladesh’s independence in 1971. He also highlighted Bangladesh’s willingness to share its development experiences with countries across the Global South while continuing to strengthen collaboration with UNDP.
UNDP further explained that Bangladesh’s contribution will support the implementation of its Strategic Plan across more than 170 countries and territories. Flexible core resources allow the organization to direct assistance where it is needed most while also strengthening accountability, oversight, and transparency in programme implementation.
