The Government of Bangladesh has reaffirmed its commitment to multilateral cooperation and sustainable development by contributing to the core resources of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The renewed contribution highlights Bangladesh’s ongoing support for global development efforts and reflects the country’s dedication to addressing pressing international challenges through collaborative action.
UNDP noted that flexible core funding plays a critical role in responding quickly to emerging crises and supporting long-term development priorities worldwide. Bangladesh continues to focus on inclusive economic growth, climate resilience, and effective governance, which closely align with UNDP’s broader mission to promote sustainable development across countries and territories.
Kanni Wignaraja, UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, expressed appreciation for the long-standing partnership between Bangladesh and UNDP. She emphasized that Bangladesh’s continued support demonstrates its commitment to advancing sustainable development globally, especially as the country progresses toward graduating from Least Developed Country (LDC) status.
Bangladesh’s Finance Minister, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, highlighted the country’s dedication to strengthening the global development framework through cooperation with UNDP, a partner that has worked alongside Bangladesh since its independence in 1971. He stated that the contribution reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable development both domestically and internationally, while also underscoring Bangladesh’s willingness to share its development experiences with other nations in the Global South.
UNDP further explained that Bangladesh’s contribution will support the implementation of its Strategic Plan across more than 170 countries and territories. Flexible core resources enable the organization to direct support where it is most urgently needed and strengthen accountability, oversight, and transparency in programme delivery.
