The Government of Canada has announced more than $120 million in new funding to address the escalating humanitarian crisis in Sudan, where a prolonged civil war has led to widespread displacement, famine, and the collapse of essential services. The announcement was made at the International Sudan Conference in Berlin by Randeep Sarai.
The funding includes over $94 million allocated for humanitarian assistance in 2026, which will be delivered through trusted partners to provide life-saving support such as food, nutrition, healthcare, shelter, protection, and water and sanitation services to vulnerable populations in Sudan, South Sudan, and Chad.
In addition to emergency aid, Canada has committed $25 million towards development assistance within Sudan. This includes $18 million to Save the Children Canada to support safe and quality education for more than 60,000 children while protecting them from violence, exploitation, and trauma. A further $7 million will be provided to the United Nations Population Fund to expand services addressing sexual and gender-based violence, particularly in regions such as Darfur and Kordofan.
The package also allocates $1.25 million to support peacebuilding and stabilization efforts, including initiatives led by civilian groups. Canada reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring humanitarian access, protecting civilians, and advocating for a permanent ceasefire in Sudan, in line with its broader foreign policy goals of promoting peace, security, and resilience across Africa.
