The Government of Canada has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that people across the country can live free from violence by strengthening support for individuals experiencing gender-based violence. As part of this effort, the federal government has announced an investment of $630,976 for the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters to address service gaps affecting at-risk groups and improve support systems for survivors.
The funding will support the expansion of survivor-centred and trauma-informed assessment tools that help organizations better understand and respond to the needs of individuals experiencing gender-based violence. Working with partners across diverse communities, the project will provide training and resources for frontline service providers, helping them strengthen their skills and deliver safer, more effective support to survivors.
Building on an earlier investment of nearly $1 million, the initiative will also focus on analyzing and sharing findings from the use of these tools. This process will help improve the quality of services offered by shelters and community organizations while strengthening the overall capacity of the gender-based violence support sector.
Through initiatives like this, Women and Gender Equality Canada continues to promote gender equality and enhance protections for vulnerable populations. By investing in evidence-based approaches and supporting organizations that assist survivors, the government aims to improve services, generate valuable insights, and contribute to long-term systemic change in addressing gender-based violence across the country.
