In Daba Naira camp, Tawila, North Darfur, displaced communities have long struggled with limited access to clean water and sanitation. Two years after arriving, 47-year-old Ali Adam Mohammed leveraged his experience in water systems to lead the camp’s Water User Committee, coordinating repairs, overseeing maintenance, and promoting safe water and hygiene practices.
Supported by the OCHA-managed Sudan Humanitarian Fund (SHF), the committee has rehabilitated the main water yard, safeguarded solar equipment, and established a communication network for timely repairs. SHF funding has enabled partners like Solidarités International to reach tens of thousands of displaced families, providing essential water, sanitation, and hygiene services.
Between 2024 and 2025, over US$76 million was allocated across North Darfur, including $25.8 million for Tawila, benefiting more than 2.4 million people in the state. These efforts have strengthened resilience, improved hygiene practices, and provided more reliable access to safe water, restoring dignity and stability for displaced communities.
