The Bloomington Health Foundation has announced its 2026 Bridge Funding opportunity, aimed at supporting local 501(c)(3) nonprofits that have experienced sudden funding disruptions jeopardizing essential programs and services. This one-time funding is designed to help stabilize established organizations in Monroe County and surrounding areas, ensuring continuity of services while they seek longer-term funding solutions.
Recent changes to state and federal funding have created significant challenges for essential nonprofit programs, prompting the foundation to step in with targeted financial support. Michelle Gilchrist, President and CEO of Bloomington Health Foundation, emphasized that the initiative seeks to maintain vital community services during times of uncertainty and strengthen the local network of organizations that serve residents in need.
Eligible applicants must be tax-exempt organizations serving the greater Bloomington area and demonstrate a loss of state or federal funding affecting existing programs. Funding requests should range from $10,000 to $50,000, focusing on sustaining current services rather than launching new initiatives. Priority is given to proposals that leverage additional funding sources, where the foundation’s support can act as a matching contribution.
Applications are evaluated based on the demonstrated funding loss, the impact of the services provided, and the organization’s plan for long-term sustainability. Required documents include IRS determination letters, recent Form 990s, and a detailed project budget.
